Critics Consensus

A featherweight fantasy with a few enticing features, The Outpost's potential pleasures can't quite overcome its cheap-looking production design.

The Outpost seems to promise enough mayhem, intrigue and burgeoning feminism to make for a satisfying enough summer run.

A majority of other shows I would have turned off by now, to be honest with you. All the negatives piling on each other, really hinders my ability to suspend belief... The key is the mysteries that you don't see coming.

Imagine a low-rent Game of Thrones wannabe with bargain basement special effects and a paint-by-numbers plot and you've got a good conception of the fantasy drama The Outpost.

If you are really into fantasy and can easily suspend disbelief, you might enjoy The Outpost. Despite its issues, there is a lot going on that might intrigue viewers.

This series is marred by sub-par acting and below-average production values, yet there are some pleasures to be had in this Xena-esque adventure.

It's hard to be the next Xena when you don't have someone as gleefully into the role as Lucy Lawless was.

Jul 12, 2018 | Full Review…

The sets are flimsy, the characters are generic, the costumes look like they came from a high school drama club's storage room, and the acting is passable at best.

Jul 11, 2018 | Full Review…

The series, which is humorous enough and romantic enough and as bloody as it needs to be for the international market, is not completely predictable.

Jul 10, 2018 | Full Review…

Way too much of the pilot for The Outpost is people talking around the things the budget can't show.

Jul 10, 2018 | Full Review…

"The Outpost" is so flimsy, the sets look as if they were assembled out of paper-mache.

Don't go in expecting game of thrones, have some fun with it. Contrary to those jaded critics the production values are pretty good with some impressive looking beasties and some nice suits of armor - it picks up a lot in the second half of S1

I love this show. One of the few shows I made sure my TiVo would remember. It's like legend of the seeker.

The pilot was a bit rough but once you get past that the show gets very good. The characters are believable and aren't super-human. They are believable and relatable. Takes about 3 episodes to really grow into itself. Definitely worth watching. I was a bit skeptical at first when I started cutting but the story and the acting slowly drew me in and now it's one of my favorite fantasy shows to watch. Very much looking forward to next season!

A great fun relaxing series which doesn't take itself too seriously. Sometimes we don't want game of thrones quality film making and acting we want something fun and engaging. The Outpost has that appeal and sooo want there to be season 2!

As a viewer who has not seen many episodes from Game of Thrones, I enjoyed this show - perhaps because I cannot compare it to another show. Whether it is good to compare one show to another is up to the individual, I suppose. I think the show has good acting, costume design and sets (to the contrary of what critics say). Yes, some of the acting does at first seem awkward, but if you stick with the show you realise it adds to each character's personality. I enjoyed the show's humour, plot twists and creativity. If it returned for Season 2, I for one would watch.
