"Spartacus: House of Ashur" explores a "what if" scenario in which Ashur (Nick E. Tarabay) survives the events of Vengeance and is rewarded with the gladiator school he once served. The series follows his rise to power as a "Dominus" in the brutal world of Roman gladiators, a path he takes with the help of a fierce gladiatrix named Achillia.

It’s promising that House of Ashur seems to understand that if it’s the NSFW pleasures that draw us in first, it’s the growing attachment to these characters and their lives that will keep us on the hook. Go to Full Review
Robert Lloyd Los Angeles Times Dec 5
The series takes its melodrama seriously, with evident dedication to its staging its, complicated fight scenes, of which there are many, and its investment in sets and costumes and effects. Go to Full Review

Another examination of autonomy and liberation that gleefully engages in bloody action, sweaty sensuality and devious machinations? All I can say is: Gratitude. Go to Full Review

This campy action series offers all the gruesome fantasy violence and sexual hedonism the Spartacus franchise is known for. Go to Full Review

The acting by Tarabay and the rest of the cast is about as subtle as a kick to the groin. Go to Full Review

And while Ashur was never a character one wanted to really root for back in the days of Spartacus, it’s fascinating to watch him try to turn himself into the person he so desperately wanted to become back then. Go to Full Review

Avindu G @RT86379654 Mar 12 Through all the graphic descriptions of the ancient world there's a story about love, redemption and struggle which comes to light after the first few episodes. This exhibits the careful writing and well planned execution by the group behind the cameras. Dynamic characters animated by the masterful performances was the major success. Dialogues with a unwavering tone and sharp audio effects intensify the effects. Visuals were simply flawless doing the impossible. First season comes to an end with major developments for a second season that would be much anticipated. See more Mike O @RT28561748 Mar 12 This show deteriorates really quickly from a promising premise. There is a reason why the Romans, who cared nothing for human dignity, did not use female gladiators. It was impractical and stupid, and it just doesn't work. Watching one of the girlboss gladiators pull of a huricarana in the arena was a facepalm moment. The dialogue is also on a lower level than the original series. Hard pass. See more Tony C @Tonychiza Mar 8 Just one of the most visually amazing shows with excellent story telling. Like the original series it isn't just gore and sex, there is great story telling and fun to watch. See more MBI M @MNZGamerX Mar 4 Has all the sex, violence and excitement associated with the Spartacus serials but the House of Ashur tends to be a little too heavy with the personal and political machinations and intrigues which consumes most of the run time of the show but the main problem is that Ashur tends to be always on the losing side due to his lack of restraint and discretion and a tendency towards boastfulness, over-confidence and arrogance. He has things tilted against him as he is an outsider with an unsavory and conspiratorial past and acting on instinct and impulse quite surprisingly puts all his fortune and luck behind a woman to fight as gladiator in the arena. As expected House of Ashur entertains with scintillating dialogue interspersed with hilarious profanities and metaphors ... By season end Ashur's plotting and scheming reveals the sheer vileness of his character which he is very much aware of and also comes to regret but he does retain certain redeeming features still ... See more Sabrine A @SabraKadabra Mar 3 What an incredible show! I was a HUGE fan of the Spartacus series, one of my favourite shows of all time. Give this season a chance, it gets better and better each episode, and what a FANTASTIC season finally. We best get a season 2! I have been checking daily about this being renewed See more Veronica L. @VeronicaLister Feb 25 How I longed for the return of Spartacus, this did not disappoint! We need a season 2.
